BLAST FROM THE PAST - The Youths of the back to back seasons 2001/02 and 2002/03 which contained practically the same squad of players contested two finals. The core of this group of players would have began their careers at U12 level under the guidance of Murt Scott with Mike O’Sullivan, Anthony McKenna and Donal O’Donoghue helping out with the coaching into their teens.

Tim Teahan and Brendan O’Sullivan took over at Youth level (u18) and the squad reached the William Main youths cup final in May 2002 against a strong Kingdom boys of Tralee.

We lost out 1-0 in an open game of soccer but with just two of the squad overage for the following season, hopes were high within the club that success could be achieved.

So in May 2003 the squad reached the League final at Mounthawk Park, Tralee with Killarney Celtic being the opposition.

We defeated a fancied Fenit Samphires side 1-0 in the semi final to reach the final. The final itself finished 1-1 with both sides having chances to win it. In our case Gearoid Browne and Derry Aherne going close in the first half. Celtic took the lead in the 60th minute when Jamie Kerrisk headed home a Peter McCarthy corner.

We equalised on the 70th minute when a move involving Tim Fitzgerald and Gearoid Browne set up Tadgh O’Keeffe who made no mistake to level the game so forcing a replay which was played after their Leaving Cert on Sunday 22nd June 2003.

Chances were scarce in the first half however both sides went in search of a winner in the second half so as to avoid a dreaded penalty shoot out. John McDonagh and Tadgh O’Keeffe went closest for Celtic and Ballyhar in the first half but it was a Derry Aherne’s strike early in the second half which gave us victory when he took on the Celtic defence to put the ball past the Celtic Keeper to claim a 1-0 victory.

We saw out the game to claim the Ciaran Driver Memorial cup (Ciaran being a Ballyhar Dynamos player who passed away too young in August 1998).

Captain Maurice O’Donoghue collected the cup on behalf of the jubilant squad, management and supporters.

Squad over the two seasons: Tadgh Aherne, James Culloty, Donal sheehan, Maurice O’Donoghue, Ger Fitzgerald, Seamus O’Connor, Tadgh O’Keeffe, Tim Fitzgerald, Gearoid Browne, Derry Aherne, Anthony O’Brien, Bryan Foley, Aidan Hartigan, Shane Breen, Ger O’Sullivan, Padraig O’Keeffe, Ger Conway and Mike Falvey.

The Youths of 2005/06 under the management of Murt Scott and Donal O’Connell lost out to St Brendans Park in the Youth league final.

The U17s of 2015/16 coached by Tony O’Connor and Micheal O’Callaghan were defeated by Listowel Celtic on a 3-0 scoreline in the U17 league final and more recently a Tony Moloney and Danny Cronin coached U17 squad reached the U17 league semi final in May 2019 being defeated away by Rattoo Rovers.
