Kenmare plays its part in ‘Virtual Dip’ success

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

THREE Kenmare women who played a part in breaking a world record, and in the process raised funds for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie Children’s Cancer Charity, now want to thank all those who supported them in their efforts.

Lisa Ragosa and two of her friends, Siobhaun O’Sullivan and Marie Thérése Cahill, took part in the Virtual Dip 2020 on Saturday, June 6.

The world-wide fundraiser was successful in breaking the world record for the “Most photos of people in water uploaded to Facebook in one hour.”

The challenge was for all ladies to take a virtual dip – in their togs, even in groups of four – in the bath, shower, paddling pool, beach, river, or wherever they pleased. They then had to post their picture to Facebook.

Lisa, Siobhaun and Marie Thérése chose a hot-tub for their dip.

To date the event has managed to raise over €102k, and the three friends have launched a final appeal to raise as much funding as possible for the charity. Aoibheann’s Pink Tie provides help and support for families who have been affected by childhood cancer.

The Kenmare ladies, Kerry ladies and ladies from across the world took part in the fund-raiser to support the vital services the children’s cancer charity provides. The three friends are delighted to have taken part in helping such a worthy cause, but they are most thankful to all those who supported them: “We just want to say thank you to every single person who donated to the cause.”

This is the second world record for ‘Strip and Dip’, which has to date raised €780,000 for the Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity.

In 2018, it broke the world record for the world’s largest skinny dip, and Lisa also took part in this.

The donation page for Virtual Dip remains open, and anyone who wants to donate to the cause can do exactly that via the iDonate virtual dip page, in the process helping to raise funds for a very worthy cause.
