Sea Synergy online educational videos reach hundreds
SEA Synergy Marine Awareness and Activity Centre has, like many businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, taken their operations online.
This Waterville business usually starts its busy season in May with Seashore Safaris, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkelling, and more.
But due to closures and travel restrictions, the business was forced to think of other impactful ways to interact with customers.
Their answer: the Sea Synergy Virtual Series. An EPA-funded event, the Sea Synergy Virtual Series was created to provide educational resources for children and adults during the lock-down. SSVS provides participants with free, interactive Zoom webinars with professionals in various marine fields from all around Ireland.
The webinars are about an hour long and also host a questions-and-answers session at the end, where participants can interact with panellists to ask questions and share stories.
The first mini-series in May – Shark Week and Fish Week – was a hit, reaching over 700 people in seven countries around the world. The events are free to attend through the Zoom online webinar platform, and the videos are shared on Sea Synergy’s Facebook page after the event so that they can be accessed by anyone who wasn’t able to make it to the live event. In June they will be holding talks about “Small Ideas for Big Impact” – how to make small changes in your lifestyle to greatly benefit the planet.
The final week of the Virtual
Series will see talks from TeamSouth (Damian Foxall, Niall MacAllister, and Lucy Hunt) discussing their recent sailing trip to Antarctica, and Sea Synergy’s Lucy Hunt and Eleanor Turner will be leading a talk on Women in Science.
