Southern Scientific can help you get the most from your grass

-

THE Soil Laboratory at Southern Scientific Services Ltd offers the most comprehensive range of tests on Soil and Agricultural Material. Carrying out soil analysis ensures year-on-year optimum grass growth. Soil Analysis determines the nutrient (potash and phosphorus) status of the soil so that the end user can optimise it by applying the correct fertilizer. Grass yield is increased and waste is eliminated.

The soil PH levels from all soil samples taken in Ireland in 2018 (167,000 samples taken) showed that 52 percent of the samples were sub-optimal. Lime, which increases soil PH, is one of the most important drivers of grass growth. Lime must be added to soil frequently, 2 tonnes per acre every two years. The 2018 data showed that 50 percent of all soil tests were sub-optimal for both potash and phosphorus, and overall, only 19 percent of all soils are satisfactory for grass and crop growth.

The Soil laboratory at Southern Scientific Services Ltd can provide soil sample boxes and corers to any individual wishing to take soil samples. They will also offer advice on the correct way to take samples. Samples can be posted directly to the laboratory or they offer a courier service for collection of samples from your premises. Results are available within 10 working days from date of receipt of the sample in the laboratory. Southern Scientific also offer an Express 5 or 3 day soil testing service on request.

Information provided by a soil test allows customers to adapt and optimize fertilizer use to make the necessary corrections, achieve greater productivity, and ensure environmental sustainability. Southern Scientific offer at least 15 different suites of soils test to cover all agricultural, horticultural, and sports turf applications: Trace elements, Soil Organic Matter, Particle Size Distribution (% Sand, Silt and Clay), Toxic Metal suite, WAC Analysis. Moreover, other services offered to the agricultural sec- tor are: Grass testing, Silage analysis, Forestry Soil and Foliage.
