The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
QUICKFIRE
What’s your earliest sporting memory?
It would have to be, if you’re talking about football, the ‘75 All Ireland. I would have been what? I would have been thirteen and Kerry winning that All Ireland against Dublin made a huge impression on me.
Who was your sporting hero growing up?
In latter times Jack O’Shea of the modern era, but Mick O’Connell was obviously an icon. I didn’t see a lot of him, I saw the end of him and hearing people talking about him and I remember the stylish way he played football and all of that so I suppose Mick O’Connell would be the obvious one.
Outside of football what would be your second sport?
I’d have an interest in all spor ts. I played basketball. I played soccer. I played tennis even and I played badminton. I was a good badminton player.
On TV what sports do you watch?
I watch rugby, soccer, obviously the Gaelic football. I watch Wimbledon in tennis. I watch the big majors in golf, but I’d watch a lot of spor ts really.
If you could go to any sporting event in the world, which one would you choose?
I’d love to go to the Olympics if I could. They would be something I’d like to see, outside of that Wimbledon is one I wouldn’t mind going to either. They’d be two I’d be interested in.
TV that’s not sport, what interests you?
Netflix changed television viewing forever didn’t it? I thought House of Cards was good. I really enjoyed that.
Any favourite movies?
Shawshank Redemption like so many others, that’s a film I enjoyed an awful lot.
