KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION

-

LATE CONOR CUSACK

It is with profound shock and sadness that the members of Kerry Hospice heard of the sudden death of our wonderful friend and volunteer Conor Cusack RIP. Conor was involved with the Hospice for many years and served as PRO for most of that time. Throughout his time in that capacity he promoted every aspect of the work of the Hospice bringing news to every part of the County. He also fundraised on the street, organised cheque presentations and overall raised the profile of the Hospice Foundation.

He was involved in the drive for the Inpatient Unit not only as PRO but he also raised funds with his own fundraisers.

Conor put the Kerry Hospice Foundation on the map through the print press and the new area of social media. He set up a Facebook page which gave everyone who was interested a great insight in to the many cheque presentations and the wonderful ongoing fundraising that was being done for the Foundation.

While Conor was doing all this wonderful work he took up running, something that he loved and adored and often came to Kerry Hospice meetings on his way home from a 15 mile run. He loved being fit and ran a total of over 100 marathons taking in marathons all over the world and in doing so he fundraised for much needed funds for the Hospice and the Irish Heart Foundation.

He took part in the Four peeks Challenge as well as climbing Kilamanjaro and he also took part in the Great Irish marathon only last year where they raised thousands of euro for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

I took on the job of assistant PRO a few years back and when Conor took a step back to concentrate on other projects and work, I stepped in as PRO. He was a huge loss to the Foundation but still continued to help out where he could. He passed his magic baton on to me and it was a daunting task to take over from him.

However being the obliging guy that he was he talked me through it all and he was always available to help and assist me in any way, a true gentleman.

Conor was Ted Moynihan’s right hand man for so many years and when Ted wanted the Kerry Hospice Foundation put on the map he defiantly picked the right man for the job.

The members of the Kerry Hospice Foundation send our sincere condolences to his family and many friends.

Ar dheis Dé to raibh a anam.
