Department: Muckross Traditional Farm will not close

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

THE Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht have confirmed this week that Muckross Traditional Farms will remain open. A meeting took place with the Department and the Trustees on Monday.

Their statement comes after the Trustees of Muckross Traditional Farms announced that the farm was to close indefinitely from September this year as no funds were available to meet the wage bill. Redundancies were mooted as part of this closure.

However, the Department said this week that the visitor attraction would remain open in line with all Government regulations amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, and they added that they are in ongoing contact with the trustees to ensure the future operation of the farm.

Despite numerous attempts to contact the Trustees of Muckross Traditional Farms to gain further clarity on the situation, The Kerryman has been unable to do so. A statement from the trustees confirmed that the parties had met and it was a “constructive engagement”.
