Lucey’s trojan work key for club’s future

-

CON Lucey is another man who does trojan work for the club and has steered the A team to a couple of successes in recent years. He has done an excellent job promoting soccer in the area for a long number of years now and the club have benefited significantly as a result.

While he did play at competitive level for a while his main interest was coaching and going into management. He managed Killorglin to win a Cup Competition and followed that up by leading their B team to a League title.

He says he is very pleased with the structures in place at the club and he is confident they can challenge strongly for silverware in the years ahead.

“We have big panels of players now at senior and underage level and we have to keep pushing ahead and look after these players in the best way possible. We have picked up a few league and cup titles in recent years but we need to get our A team back playing in Premier A again.

“With over 50 players involved in the three senior teams we should be capable of producing a team that can get up to Premier A and perhaps down the road challenge for a Premier A league title. It won’t happen overnight but we must continue to do our very best to reach this ultimate aim.

“We have the players who are capable of raising the bar to compete in the top flight of Kerry soccer. We have to believe that we can compete at this level and that is our goal for the immediate future.”

He has been very good to me for the past decade sending in a report on all their games whether they win or lose. He reports always give a fair and non-partisan account of the games and he also makes the effort to get the goalscorers from the opposing which is very helpful.
