Style up for a virtual Ladies’ Day at Killarney Races

- By STEPHEN FERNANE

A year sure is a long time in horse racing when one considers that this time last year the legend that is Frankie Dettori caused a tailback of traffic around Killarney, as thousands of patrons made their way to the scenic racecourse to catch a glimpse of the world-class jockey in action.

But times have changed, and while there won’t be any crowds at Killarney Races for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19 restrictions, the show must go on – particularly when it comes to fashion.

Killarney Races takes place behind closed doors on July 7, 13 and 15, with the Dawn Milk Virtual Ladies’ Day being one of the main features.

Killarney Racecourse Racing Manager Philip O’Brien said that while it’s disappointing not to be able to welcome its loyal patrons, sponsors and guests to the course, he is very much looking forward to getting back to racing again.

“We are so happy that our wonderful sponsors of the last 27 years, Dawn Milk, have yet again supported our July Ladies’ Day,” Philip said.

“The event is always the highlight in the social calendar for so many.

“We hope that people enjoy taking part in the Dawn Milk Virtual Ladies’ Day and bring the glitz and glamour that Killarney is famous for into their homes,” he said.

So how does it work? Ladies and gents should style the perfect racing outfit and pick up one of the new Dawn Milk one-litre cartons. Then, just trike a pose and include one of the new cartons in your entry photo. Entries can be submitted by email (dawnmilkladiesday2020@gmail.com) along with your entry photo and details of your outfit and contact details.

You may also upload your photo and outfit details on your Instagram or Facebook page and include #dawnmilkladiesday2020 in your post. Entries will be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday, July 15.

The winner of the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gent prizes will be announced on social media on Thursday, July 16.

The prize is €500 for the Best Dressed Lady and €500 for the Best Dressed Gent. Plus, both winners will receive two VIP tickets to the Dawn Milk Ladies’ Day in 2021.

“Dawn Milk has sponsored Ladies’ Day in Killarney for 27 years making it one of the longest ladies’ day patronages in Ireland,” said John O’Sullivan, General Manager, Dawn Milk.

“Year after year the event has had a positive impact on the local economy supporting boutiques, designers, milliners, hair stylists, beauty and makeup artists, and the hospitality industry,” John added.
