Extraordinary 6th Class grads at Scoil Muire Gan Smál

“Although this was always going to be a strange year due to the current circumstances, on Monday our amazing sixth class girls graduated from the school,” said spokesperson, Emma Sweeney.

“Sixth class teacher Claire. Smith wanted to make sure that the day was as special as possible for her graduates.

Ms. Smith gathered a team of helpers and a convoy of cars and travelled around Castleisland and the surrounding areas to visit the girls in a socially distanced manner and deliver a little care package to them.

“The staff members managed to give each pupil a round of applause and a little send off so that we could show how much they all meant to us.

“We wish the girls every success in the future and hope they won’t be strangers!! said Ms. Sweeney and she introduced the following message from Principal Máire Lynch to the departing students.

“We wish all our Rang a 6 the very best of luck in their new secondary schools.

“They are graduating in very unique circumstances but I’m sure they take with them some great memories of their time here in Muire Gan Smál.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank their teacher Ms. Smith for all her work throughout the year with them and to also thank the teachers who taught them all the way through primary school.

“They can be proud of their achievements and the people they’ve become. We’d also like to thank the parents of the sixth class girls who have supported them and the school through the years.

“We really appreciate their support and for those parents who are ‘finishing up’ with us.

“Please accept our thanks and our good luck wishes for them and their families in the future.

“We’d especially like to thank Mary Mahony for all the work she has done for the parents’ association over the years.

“Without the parents’ association the school would not be the place it is today as their support makes a big difference to the facilities and the experiences we can offer our pupils.

“Also a special word of thanks to Ms. Sweeney who compiled a video presentation for the sixth class.

“It’s filled with pictures of them down through the years. Also, many thanks to the PA committee who organised a gift for each of the sixth class.”
