Keel calls on GAA community to help write a history
A CLUB is nothing without its people, and with that in mind, mid-Kerry outfit Keel is looking to collect stories of the club from the perspective of those who’ve helped make it what it is today.
Ailís Murphy, William Evans, and Brendan Griffin TD are spearheading an initiative that seeks to capture what the club means to those who’ve been involved both inside and outside the white lines, and when the stories are collected, the aim is to publish the collection, titled ‘Stories From Our People’ later in2020.
The club has made out a list of questions across a wide spectrum, delving into matters such as the best memories, best opponents, and best matches to have graced the Mid Kerry club’s history, according to each contributor’s opinion.
“Players and members past and present, men and women, volunteers at every level, supporters, sponsors, Scór participants, referees, umpires, sandwich makers, grass cutters, ticket sellers, our global diaspora, new residents of Keel – all are welcome and encouraged to contribute,” William Evans said.
“We really hope that people will get involved, and we want this to be a book for everyone.”
The club will provide the list of questions to those who contact keelstories@gmail.com or Messenger via the club’s Facebook page, although the deadline isn’t too far away – July 19. People will also have the option of providing images old or new to the collectors, preferably with as much detail as possible attached.
“This book is a celebration of the people of our club as well as being a fun way to record some of our club’s history,” Brendan Griffin TD said.
“All proceeds from the book will go towards the future development of Keel GAA Club.
“We would greatly value and appreciate as many responses as possible from Keel people everywhere, and we look forward to producing ‘Stories From Our People’ later this year,” Mr Griffin TD added.
