WE don’t always get the weather for swimming and days out on the beaches in Ireland but regardless of weather our wonderful coastline offers plenty of sea-faring adventures for all the family to enjoy while on holidays. From wild swimming to kayaking and water-sports there is something for all the family to enjoy.

WILD WATER ADVENTURES

Wild Water Adventures based in Tralee and North Kerry specialise­s in, coasteerin­g, open water swimming, sea kayaking, wild swimming tours and hill walking. If you fancy discoverin­g the wonderful coast-line of North Kerry from the water than this is the perfect day out. There is not more glorious and free than swimming in a mountain lake amid the beauty of the Kerry mountains having hiked along the route to the remote location. A genuine wonderful experience unrivalled anywhere in the world.

STAR OUTDOORS ADVENTURE

It doesn’t matter what the weather, everyone will enjoy a day out at Star Outdoors Adventure Centre which offers a host of water and landbased fun activities for all the family including kayaking, canoeing, paintball, crazy golf and archery but what will bring the most laughter and fun for all ages is the water park – a world of inflatable fun on the water including trampoline­s and slides. Sounds of laughter will echo for hours and will keep everyone entertaine­d even the adults.

BALLYHASS ACTIVITY CENTRE MALLOW

A fun day out at Ballyhass Mallow can be had for all the family with a host of water-based activities to enjoy including those with a difference such as wake-boarding. Ballyhass Wakepark based at the beautiful Ballyhass lakes 10 minutes outside Mallow is one of the most unique parks in Ireland and Munster’s most unique tourist attraction. Cable wake-boarding uses an overhead cable which pulls you over the surface of the lakes with a feel just like surfing or snowboardi­ng but on water. Try something new!

DISCOVER OUR BLUEWAYS

On land we have Greenways and on water we have Blueways and what better way to explore the coastline of Ireland but from the water. An extensive network of water trails are open along the West Coast of Ireland stretching from north-west Mayo to south Galway offering a host of activities like kayaking, canoeing and snorkellin­g. Each of the five Blueway sites – Keem Beach, Old Head, Inishbofin, Killary Fjord and Mannin Bay on the West Coast have on-site info boards with trail maps, safety details and info on equipment hire and tuition. There are a host of other Blueway destinatio­ns around the country.

SURF IN SLIGO

For anyone who wants to enjoy Irish beaches then surfing is the way to go. There are locations right across the country to enjoy, suitable for those new to the sport and the more advanced adrenaline junkies. One such perfect location is the beaches of Sligo -Beaches at Strandhill and Enniscrone are great for seasoned surfers but also perfect for learners while Easkey beach is also legendary for good surf.

SAILING IN IRELAND

Ireland has a long tradition of sailing and there are a host of locations where you can dip your toes into the this sport including at Sailing Ireland in Kilmore Quay in Wexford where there are a range of courses to gain sailing knowledge. There are also sailing trips around the Saltee islands on South East Coast where you can enjoy the wonderful coastline and the abundance of wildlife that inhabit the area.

WATERPARKS

Keeping the family entertaine­d on holiday is not easy but fear not there are a host of water parks across the country that are well worth visiting. One that is hugely talked about is Center Parcs in Longford where children can enjoy indoor water fun with water temperatur­es up to 29 degrees. The indoor subtropica­l water world has a host of rapids, wave pools and slides.

DELPHI RESORT GALWAY

One of Ireland best-known adventure centres Delphi Resort in Leenane in Galway on the Wild Atlantic Way offers a host of activities for adrenaline junkies including land and water based fun. Try kayaking, canoeing or surfing in the scenic beauty of the 300 acre adventure park or face tougher challenges via the bog obstacle course or raft building exercise. There is literally something for everyone to try during a wonderful escape from real life.
