KDL chairman delighted that season is resuming
THE chairman of the Kerry District League Sean O’Keeffe is equally optimistic that the new protocol can be implemented without too much difficulty”
“Clubs must realise that we will be playing in a new environment when the season resumes and we are doing our very best to ensure that everyone involved in the game do so without a risk to their health. We have brought in advisors and we will be doing our very best to ensure the safely of everyone who go through the gates at Mounthawk Park,” O’Keeffe told The Kerryman.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes putting all the safety measures in place and we will to have all the requirements met before the first game is played. We will have plenty of sanitation in place and we will also be insisting everyone obeys the distancing guidelines. We have emailed out the new protocol to every club in the county and they have been instructed to appoint their own Covid Officer who will have the responsibility of ensuring the club meet the requirements set up to deal with the pandemic. It is every clubs responsibility to get their officials and players fully up to speed with the new protocol.
“We will be hosting the Keane Jewellers Munster Champions League final at Mounthawk Park on August 2nd between Killarney Celtic and Fairview Rangers and we will work with the two clubs to ensure we comply with the size of the attendance on the day. The games will be an all ticket affair.
“We are one of the few leagues in the country that is able to finish the season and all the clubs in the KDL are delighted with plenty of league and cup finals to come in the weeks ahead.
“We are also delighted that the SSE Airtricity under-17 and under-19 league will commence in mid August. The squad are back to training again now and eagerly await their opening game.
“We have an extremely busy schedule ahead of us in the coming weeks and we will be doing our utmost to ensure everyone involved in our games follow all the protocols that are in place to combat Covid-19. All the clubs have been great so far but we have to keep the momentum going in the weeks and months ahead,” O’Keeffe added.
