Flood risks in Carrick

-

I would like to address all in the OPW and Minister Canney. I’ve had a look at your Shannon Flood Risk Management proposals. I realise that you are the leading agency putting forward possible solutions. To me, what you are at is nonsense. I do not believe this “climate change” stuff, nor do I believe that holding the flood waters behind berms or banks is any good That is merely accepting that we will have perpetual floods and that we must learn to live in the swamps. It is accepting the unchallenged view of the NPWS. We, who live along the Shannon, cannot afford to wait for years for you to come up with containment solutions. It is best to get to basics. Move the River along as fast as possible. Do not hold up Lough Allen as a reservoir for Ardnacrusha. The ESB no longer demand that this be done. There are large banks of mud silt and peat silt in the Shannon, especially in its mid course. Dredge these and continue to dredge all along the River. Let the waters levels down very much from September and keep the gates open whenever heavy rains are forecast in winter. Dear Madam The 23 June 2016 will always be remembered as Independence day when the voters of the United Kingdom said enough was enough despite a campaign of intimidation by the remain group which at times descended to the level of the sewer the words that come to mind to describe the Eu are Arrogance, undemocratic and out of touch - some of its leaders have not even been elected by anyone. The 72 per cent voter turnout shows democracy is alive and well in the UK. The comments by some in the media suggested that the UK voters did not know what they were voting for this could not be further from the truth. In fact the opposite was the case - people waited 43 years to vote on these clowns that run the EU. What started out as a trading agreement between nine countries in the seventies was hijacked by some unelected people working for the then EEC and continues to this day. Most of the twenty seven remaining countries are in a financial mess brought about by the monetary policies being pursued by the larger countries in the group. The big issues for the Irish voters will be currency and movement of people but alas if Europe does not like the voice of the Irish people they will be told to keep voting till they come up with a vote that is to the EUs liking.
