THERE’S going to be plenty to see and do at festival, as previous visitors could attest to but this year the festival and fair day is going to be bigger than ever.

From Saturday the 6th of August till Wednesday the 10th of August, there’s only one place that you’re going to want to be, and that’s Tubbercurry.

The festival will be opening with a dance with Lee Matthews and his band in St. Brigid’s Hall in Tubbercurry. Sure to be a fun night and a great way to open the festival, Doors are open at 10pm with bar till late, tickets are € 10 and available from Gillespie’s Menswear and Margaret Kennedy’s and on the door.

There’s also Murray’s Funfair, which will be open nightly for anyone seeking an adrenaline rush!

The festival culminates with its undoubted highlight, the Old Fair Day on Wednesday 10th August. People will get the chance to experience the sights and sounds of fair days gone in our crafts and heritage village, artisan food and bread displays, children’s fun zones and enjoy live demonstrations from glass blowing, spinning, weaving, basket making to thatching and trashing.

There’s also a commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the Easter Rising with a display of stories, medals, uniforms, exhibitions and talks by historians. The display is entitled “South Sligo Rising 1912- 1922“. There’ll also be a presentation by County Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Centre on tracing your ancestors with a discussion on 1916, with all of the 1916 events sure to be fascinating.

With over 100 exhibitors planned to be dotted around throughout the town and also music on the day being provided by the hugely popular Johnny Brady and his band, the Old Fair Day Festival is sure to be a hit again this year.

So come along to the Tubbercurry old fair Day Festival, where old friends and new friends can come together and savour the warmth and hospitality that Tubbercurry has to offer.
