Grange’s Seamas is called up to Ireland u15 squad

SEAMAS Keogh, a native of Grange, received the news last Wednesday that he has been called up to the Ireland Under 15 panel for the prestigiou­s Hibernia Cup.

Currently in the internatio­nal pathway, the Hibernia Cup is the first opportunit­y for boys to put on the green jersey.

Players are selected by the level of their performanc­e at the SFAI’s Kennedy Cup which is held annually in Limerick in June. Seamas plays locally for Benbulben F. C and captained them to an u14 shield title with a hat trick in the final.

Keogh has been selected for the Ireland squad after impressing in two trials held in the AUL complex and also for his dominant displays against challengin­g opposition at the Kennedy Cup for the Sligo- Leitrim Representa­tive squad, including Kilkenny and the DDSL, the Dublin District and Schoolboys league. Keogh will line up against the likes of Celtic, Norwich, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Northern Ireland.

Keogh follows on from the success of Lorcan Callaghan and Ryan Smith who participat­ed in the 2014 Hibernia Trophy with the Ireland squad. SIX Sligo Rovers underage players have been called for Assessment days with the Republic of Ireland national side.

Three under- 17s will be assessed for the under- 17 national side and likewise for the under- 19s.

Goalkeeper Lorcan Callaghan, defender Thierry Baba and striker Mark Byrne will all take part in under- 17s assessment­s at the FAI National Training Centre Wednesday July 20 and July 27.

All three have earned previous internatio­nal recognitio­n.

Rovers’ under- 19s Mikey Place, Mark Hannon and Paul Doyle will also be assessed for the Irish under- 19 squad.

That will also take place July 20 in Abbottstow­n.

Both Place and Doyle have featured in Dave Robertson’s first team squad’s this season.
