Walkers impress at juveniles in Offaly

IN the GloHealth Juvenile T& F Championsh­ips at Tullamore, Ray Flynn’s Sligo AC’s Walkers impressed greatly.

Ruth Monaghan was nudged into Bronze in the 2K Walk U14 Women finishing 3rd in 11: 11: 31, just 3 seconds behind Waterford AC’s Claire Caulfield.

In doing so, the Mercy College student sliced an impressive 60 seconds of her PB.

In the 3K Walk U16 Men, Ryan Roberts was 3rd in 15: 45: 83. Congratula­tions also to Orlaith Delahunt who earned Silver in the 3K Walk U19 Women with a time of 17: 02.18.

Liam Feely was a convincing winner of Tireragh 5k.

Conditions were favourable for the 93 competitor­s on the out and back course.

Feely opened an early lead of 20 seconds on a chasing pack of 6 and once the North Leitrim AC man turned at the half way stage, there was only going to be one winner as he finished first in a time of 16: 26.

Sligo AC’s Shane Hayes was second in 16: 48.

There was a battle for 3rd which was won by Raymond Byrne in 17: 29 who proved to be slightly stronger on the uphill to finish just 4 seconds ahead of North Sligo’s Gary Gallagher( 1st M40).

Sligo AC’s Andrew Duffy, fresh from his recent victory in the Coolaney 8K, was 5th in 17: 34 with North Sligo’s Eamonn Murphy 6th in 17: 36 and Sligo AC’s David Kearins 7th in 17: 48.

In the Female section, Sligo AC’s Mari Johnston was 1st in 19: 38 with a South Sligo 2nd and 3rd through Monica Henry in 20: 34 and Lorraine Hosey in 21: 09.

Caroline Kilcawley won the F40 in 21.44.

In the Fingal 10k Seamus Somers ran 33.38 to eclipse his old PB time by 10 seconds.

His time earned him 2nd in the M40. Mary Furey completed the course in 45.07 ( PB), Fionnuala Silke 46.21 ( PB) while Michelle Cawley and Louise Finan broke the 60 minute barrier running 59.38.

In the Balla 10K. Paul Deering ran 42.08 and Conor Mc Carthy finished the tricky course in 54.29. Cathy Mc Carthy in 48.26, Rose Young in 55.29 and Olivia Seery 67.59 also ran well.
