CAPTAINS Day THIS weekend sees our most prestige competitio­n of the year as our Club Captain Mr Niall Walsh hosted his Captains Day on this coming Bank Holiday Sun- day 31th July. The Club and especially all from the men’s club and council would like to wish Captain Niall and his Family an Enjoyable and successful day and night, starting off with the golf in the morning. Those of us who is lucky enough to make the cut will have a nine hole playoff in the afternoon. Following the Golf we meet in the Middleton Bar at 8pm, where after that Captain Niall will host his Captains Dinner in the Coach House Room, followed by presentati­on of prizes, music and dancing into the night. Niall has worked exceptiona­l hard to improve every aspect of our club and golf course all year with great strides being made in every department, and which we have no doubt he will continue to do so for the remainder of his Captaincy. We would encourage a many members to come out and support Niall on his Captains Day and try and win the Captains prize. There is also a ladies competitio­n on the day and Mervyn Keegan will hold a junior beginners mini competitio­n next Saturday at 3pm for the Captains weekend so there’s something for everyone this weekend. CLUB Competitio­ns THE results of the competitio­n on the 17th July sponsored by Embassy, which was also a golfer of the year event was won by Paul Mullen with a score of 39pts, in second was Brendan Deignan and in third was Niall Walsh. This weekend sponsors were on Saturday by Envest Environmen­tal and on Sunday by Mc Canny and Co. Solicitors. Results in next weeks notes. Next weeks sponsors are on Saturday by Conroc Coffee and is open stableford and on Sunday its Captains Day and is stroke. On the Bank Monday Lavins Outfitters is the sponsor and the competitio­n is open stableford. CONNAGHT U16 WELL done to club members Patrick Callaghan and Sean Carroll who represente­d Connaght in the U16 interprovi­ncial Championsh­ip in Tullamore last week. The lads got four points between them for the team with Connaght very close to Winning the title but pipped by Munster on the last hole of the last match. Well done lads.

LADIES - Captain Niall Walsh will host his Captain’s Day on Sunday next 31st July. We all look forward to a great day of golf and the celebratio­ns to follow later in the evening . Congratula­tions to all the other winners especially Mary Meade on the get into golf programme. TEAM NEWS AN amzing weekend of golf was crowned by the Challenge cup Ladies Team defeating Castlebar G. C. in Claremorri­s to progress to the Connacht Final in Athenry againsy Galway G. C. for the second year running. The team captained by Carmel Hatt and vice- captain Edel McDermot was Jean Barr, Rosie Mullan, Maire Dufficey, Ann Sheridan, Patsy McElhone and subs Kate Hegarty and Ann Harrison. THE Senior Foursomes team also received a bye into the next round on 7th August. The opposition and venue are still to be announced.

LADIES - Tubbercurr­y Ladies SATURDAY 23rd July was the big event of the year for our Ladies. Lady Captain Pat Kelly pulled out all the stops making sure everything was in order for us. Her COMPENSATI­ON was the large number of players in both the 18 Hole Stroke and the 9 Hole Stableford Competitio­ns. Pat’s display of prizes in the morning, especially her much sought after 1st. PRIZE was all that was needed to get the ladies anxious to get to the 1st. tee and hope that Lady Luck and good play would earn them a place at the prize giving table in the evening. THE weather was very favourable and we all enjoyed the highs and lows of the day. Pat with her good humour and unassuming demeanour added so much to the day and afterwards, while enjoying a beautiful meal lifted the spirits of those of us who failed to get to the prize giving table.
