Informative nature walk workshops with Michael

-

Ballymote- based nature educator Michael Bell will provide a nature walk and workshop in Beltra on August 14th.

The founder of Nature Learn will guide attendees through Longford Demense, an old wooded estate in the west Sligo parish, situated off the Sligo- Ballina road.

It is the first of a number of walks planned for the autumn.

“I plan to do some walks over the next few months,” Michael told The Sligo Champion.

“The first is on August 14th near Beltra, in an old estate woodland.

“It is a nice area for a walk, and there are hiking trails and we will meet up on August 14th and walk around the trail.”

The walk will take in the vast wildlife on the site, as well as taking a closer look at some of the wooded areas and the type of trees dotted around the picturesque location.

“We will look at the nature, and set up a moth trap before the walk so we can examine them. People tend to be amazed at moths.

“We will also listen for different birds and wildlife,” Michael says.

Michael says that the wider Sligo area is rich in na- ture and wildlife, and his work looks to unearth that.

Michael continued: “It [ Sligo] is a really good place to be. The walks really help to promote this, and there are lots of really interesting trees and wildlife in the area.

“There are Pine Martens, for example. I’ve worked myself mostly in schools and I am also chair of the Sligo branch of Birdwatch Ireland, and there are lots of activities out there now,” Michael added.

More details of the workshop will be available at Nature Learn on Facebook in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for more walks that could be taking place in your area.
