STOP RE- LAUNCHED

Tom Reilly the new elected Chairman of STOP, the suicide prevention organisation, welcomed a large attendance to its recent re- launch in Manorhamilton’s Bee Park Community Centre.

Mr Reilly said that ‘ STOP had 26 counsellors working for it in the area and it provides services in Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Cavan, West Fermanagh and Leitrim.’

He noted that virtually all its funding comes from voluntary donations with very little coming from the HSE and government. Tom called on the HSE and the government ‘ to take a look at the provision of funding for STOP,’

The Chairman also stated that it takes € 100,000 annually to run STOP. He thanked Seán and Carmel Fallon for the outstanding work they had done for STOP since its formation in 2004 and for keeping the organisation ‘ on the road.’

Tom Reilly also appealed to individuals and organisation to ‘ please consider raising money for STOP,’ so that it can continue its life saving work.

The STOP phone numbers by which anyone in need can contact it are Freephone 1850- 211877 or 086 7772009. STOP seeks to have any caller in contact with a counsellor within 24 hours; otherwise it offers advice or support for anyone unsure of how to respond if concerned for another.

BUTTON FACTORY REUNION

Manorhamilton’s Western Button Factory reunion will take place in the Bee Park Community Centre’s North Leitrim Women’s Centre on this Friday, July 29, from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m.

Prior to its closure in September 1972 the Button Factory provided essential employment for several decades for many people from Manorhamilton and it hinterland.

The workers in the Button Factory, who were all highly regarded for their skills in manufacturing its products, also had a terrific social life outside its gates and contributed greatly to local community in many ways.

The Button Factory dinner dance was a well supported and looked forward event annually for many years. The organisers of the Button Factory reunion are looking forward to seeing many family members of its former workers in attendance at Fridays event.
