LOVELY LEITRIM

Beezneez Theatre Company are hitting the significant landmark this year of twenty years of national touring, during which time they have become one of the most popular touring companies in Ireland.

To mark the occasion, Beezneez is responding to the constant requests they’ve got over the years to present a revival of John McDwyer’s first play, Lovely Leitrim, and are bringing the production to the Hawk’s Well Theatre on August 6th and August 7th.

It’s fair to say that Lovely Leitrim put Beezneez on the map as a touring company and introduced McDwyer as a playwright.

The witty story about the passing way of life is as relevant today as it was 20 years ago, and with much of the original cast returning it is sure to be a special event.

Well known Co. Sligo actors Maurice Kehoe, Peter Davey and Michael Roper are among the returning actors in this production and Cliffoney’s Anthony Brennan, Louise Maloney from Ballisodare and Kieran Brennan from Tubbercurry make their Beezneez acting debuts.

Tickets are available from the Hawk’s Well Box Office or online at www. hawkswell. com.

SLIGO FESTIVAL

The upcoming Sligo Festival is sure to be an event to remember and one which is sure to showcase the culture and vibrancy that Sligo has to offer.

With the full programme being unveiled last week, the festival is shaping up nicely.

Musically, while there are performances all over County Sligo, perhaps the stand- out events are the outdoor shows taking place in Stephen St. Car Park.

On Thursday the 4th of August, Kieran Quinn, an accomplished performer and composer will be bringing his “themed nights” show to the outdoor venue, where an array of Sligo’s finest talent will be performing your favourite sing- a- long anthems.

On the Friday the 5th of August, Ireland’s hottest up and coming artists The Strypes will be lighting up the stage at Stephen’s St. Car Park viciously hammering out a no- nonsense blues repertoire that has got them recognition the world over.

The Stunning, one of Ireland’s favourite and best selling bands, are going to be brewing up a storm in Stephen St. Carpark on Saturday the 6th of August. Set to be one of the festival highlights, you’re not going to want to miss iconic Irish performers.

THE CAT AND THE MOON - TREAD SOFTLY

The Tread Softly kicked off in earnest on Sunday but it’s running till the 6th of August.

On its final day, one of the highlights of the festival comes from The Blue Raincoat Company’s production of W. B. Yeat’s play The Cat and the Moon.

The much loved Yeats play is being performed in the unique outdoor theatre venue of Dooney Rock.

The free concert will be performed looking out onto Lough Gill, as Yeats himself would have done.

With direction from Niall Henry, the performance is sure to be a memorable one. In the play, two beggars, one blind and one lame, travel to the well of St Coleman hoping to be cured of their afflictions and upon arrival, St Coleman gives both beggars the choice of being cured or being blessed.

Come along and enjoy some theatre on the shores of Lough Gill on August 6th.
