Proposed development of 28 Council houses at Knappagh Road site
THE housing supply in Sligo could be boosted if a planning application for 28 council houses gets the green light.
The proposed development is located close to the centre of town and its amenities.
Sligo County Council has applied for Planning Permission to construct the houses along Knappagh Road.
The application is for the construction of 28 dwellings at the location, which is in close proximity to Sligo town.
The proposed development includes six single bedroom apartments over six threebed duplex townhouses.
There is also a terrace of eight two- bedroom apartments over eight two- bed townhouses.
The proposed build also includes new vehicular entrance and access road, widening of existing footpath together with two pedestrian access points.
The development with also consist of 28 car- parking spaces, as well as an open space and landscaping.

There are currently more than 1,000 on the housing waiting list in Sligo.
In June, it was announced by the Government that it was establishing a € 200m infrastructure fund for local authorities to help develop the supply of new housing.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the fund was set up to help progress social, affordable and private housing. The first € 70m of the € 200m fund will be available in 2017, with € 100m in 2018 and a further € 30m in 2019.
At the time, Sligo/ Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry said Sligo should be a priority for the new housing activation fund.
