Had no insurance but had driven to and from court

-

A 60 year old man who drove to and from Tubbercurry Court despite not having insurance was given a four months sentence suspended for three years and banned from driving for five years.

The court heard that on February 24th last, Gerrard Lynn, Barrack Street, Charlestown was in Tubbercurry Court and was seen by Garda Raymond Guilfoyle driving at Humbert Street.

“After the court I was on the street and I noticed the defendant driving past and there was no insurance displayed on his car.

Mr Morgan Coleman, solicitor ( defending) said Lynn had driven to court without insurance.

“He had made enquiries on the day to drive but not enough,” he pleaded.

Lynn told the court he was supposed to get a lift to court but borrowed a car because he was under pressure to get there.

He said he didn’t intentionally drive without insurance.

“I apologise, I made the wrong decision,” he said.

He admitted that on March 6th he was also stopped while driving on the way to the supermarket.

The Garda asked him on this date about his driving on the 24th of February.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said it was a shocking case. “He motors to court and drives off merrily,” he said.

Mr Coleman pleaded that Lynn had a restaurant but was in dire financial difficulty.
