Pic: SLIGO Rovers Under- 19s were knocked out of the Enda McGuill Cup on Tuesday night last, following a 6- 2 defeat at the hands of Galway United in Eamonn Deacy Park.

Sligo Rovers were given a golden opportunity to take the lead early on, as they were awarded a penalty when Galway’s Aaron Conway was adjudged to have fouled in the area.

Up stepped the in form Jason Hunt, who beat the keeper to make it 1- 0 to the visitors.

It was one apiece with 20 minutes gone, though, as Rovers’ ‘ keeper Jack Burke fouled Galway’s Andrew Connolly in the area.

Connolly himself converted the penalty.

Rovers took the lead once again just before the half- hour mark as Hunt gained possession at the back post, striking into the corner.

The lead was short- lived, though, as Connolly once again beat Burke in goal to level the playing ground once again.

The hosts took the lead just before the interval through Colm Walsh- O’Loghlen, who cut in from the left before smashing his shot past Burke into the far corner.

Matters weren’t going to get any easier for the Bit o’Red youngsters, though, and Galway extended their lead ten minutes after the interval.

Andrew Connolly’s neat finish sealed his hat- trick for the evening.

Just after the hour mark, Josh Marvesley’s through ball exposed the Rovers defence, allowing Walsh- O’Loghlen to find the net, making it 5- 2 to the hosts.

Second half substitute Ciaran Nugent added a sixth later on.
