Places still available for one mile race in Lough Gill Swim

-

THE countdown to the Lough Gill swim is underway as the biggest charity swim in the country takes place on August 13th.

All places for the 10km Marathon swim are sold out but some places still remain for the one mile ( wetsuit optional) and relay events.

Entry is available on www.loughgillswim.com

The swim in memory of Neil McGarry has raised over € 116k to date for North West Hospice Sligo and this year sees a record 120 swimmers take to the waters of the lake.

The 10km swim has switched back to the traditional route from Parkes Castle ( Co. Leitrim) to the back avenue at Doorly park in Sligo.

This gruelling swim is a real test of a swimmer’s abilities mentally and physically with the average swimmer taking 3.5 hours to complete the course.

Lough Gill swimmers Tom Ford, Ger Hartnett, Ben Lewis, John McShane, Donncha O’Connor and Connor McCarthy last month completed an English Channel Relay swim, the Mount Everest of open water swimming.

There are free meet and train sessions at 18.30 Tuesdays and Thursdays in the lead up to the swim at the back avenue and anyone who wishes to come along is more than welcome.

Organisers wish to thank all the team at Hazelwood House for their generous support of the swim. For more information see www.loughgillswim.com
