International debut
A young athlete is making history with his international debut this weekend.
17- year- old Shane Mooney of Tireragh AC will pull on the Irish vets for the first time when he competes in the Celtic Games in Colwyn Bay, Wales.
The Celtic Games is an annual athletics international between Ireland, Scotland and Wales with one representative for each event per country.
Shane qualifies for the Irish international team having won the national U18 110 metre hurdles.

Shane won his national title on July 9th when he dominated the field to win in a time of 14.9 seconds from Alun Francis of Crusaders AC and Patryk Woluniek of Athenry AC.
Shane is coached jointly by former senior international Roddy Gaynor and his father Sean Mooney.
A full schedule is planned with athletes competing in track and field events throughout the day,
The games are a team competition and each event will be athlete will be given a point score to add to their team total.
The score is based off of the athlete’s place in their respective event.
Shane has been impressing on the track this year, winning the national title back at the beginning of July.
The whole of Sligo wishes him well.
