SOUTH SLIG0 SALES

PLENTY OF CHOICE AND EXCELLENT VALUE WITH 3 BED SEMI’S ON SALE FOR AS LOW AS € 50K, SAY AUCTIONEERS

- By PAUL KEEGAN

THE South of Sligo plays home to some of the nicest towns and villages in the county, and it’s not difficult to see while people would want to move there.

Towns such as Ballymote, Riverstown and Castlebaldwin are all places where potential home- buyers would seriously consider moving to and settling down in.

With the range of services and amenities that these towns have to offer, coupled with a short commute to Sligo town, the South of Sligo is a viable place for someone to purchase property.

While the south of Sligo may not be as popular to buy property as other locations in the county such as Strandhill and Rosses Point, it has a number of perks.

The housing shortages that have affected Sligo aren’t quite as prevalent in South Sligo

John Murphy of Murphy and Sons, who have an agency in Tubbercurry as well as in Sligo town, believes it’s a good time to buy in the area: “It’s a good time to buy property in rural Sligo as there’s value to be had.

“It’s possible to buy a 3 bed semi- detached house in the area for as low as € 50,000.”

Eamon Scanlon of Eamon Scanlon Auctioneers, whose agency is located in Ballymote Town, reiterates this view and is very happy with the property market in South Sligo at present:

“The market has improved substantially. Houses in places like Riverstown, Gurteen and Coolaney are attractive prepositions for prospective buyers, as well as Ballymote and Tubbercurry.” “There’s fantastic value to be found in South Sligo. “You can buy a 3- 4 bedroom house in the area for less than € 100,000.”

When people are choosing a location, he believes that the Rail Station may be a swaying point: “The most popular location would be Ballymote in my view.

“I think the people who are moving into the area really take the train station into consideration.”

It’s not just a healthy buyers market, either. If you’re looking to sell, now is a good time to do so due to the shortage of houses available throughout the area.

Auctioneer and local TD Eamon Scanlon confirmed: “It’s a good time to sell. If it’s on the market, it will be bought, no doubt about it, and we’ve seen a € 10,000 increase in prices in the last 18 months.”

“We are beginning to notice a property shortage in the County, but it’s not affecting the south of Sligo as much as the town. There’s just not the same amount of property available so if you’re selling, it will be snapped up.”

If you’re looking for a place to purchase property, south Sligo may be worth considering, due to it’s affordability, the amenities on offer and the short commute to Sligo town.
