ST FARNAN’S 1- 12 ENNISCRONE/ K 2- 3

ST Farnan’s got their Kennedys Intermediate Championship campaign off to a winning start when they accounted for west Sligo neighbours Enniscrone/ Kilglass at Easkey last Saturday evening.

The Dromore West outfit were marginally the better side in this Group Three clash, though Enniscrone/ Kilglass will feel as though they could have got something from the game.

It was the seasiders who got off to the best start and were 1- 2 to 0- 1 ahead after the opening 15 minutes, with John Paul Carden netting from close range after Greg Regan’s fine catch.

Playing with the wind, Enniscrone/ Kilglass were on the back foot for the remainder of the half and St Farnan’s scored four points without reply to reduce the deficit to a single point, 1- 2 to 0- 4 at the break.

Despite having the wind on their backs, St Farnan’s found themselves further behind after the restart.

Eamon Kilgannon and Ciaran O’Connor kicked two points to give their side the lead for the first time, but a fortuitous goal from Cillian O’Dowd’s point attempt gave Enniscrone/ Kilglass a 2- 2 to 0- 6 lead with 20 minutes remaining.

St Farnan’s however remained composed and controlled proceedings in the latter stages with Ciaran O’Connor, James Hynes and Patrick O’Connor among the scorers as the Benson Cup champions won out by six points, despite late pressure from Enniscrone/ Kilglass.
