GRASSROOTS
Congratulations to our U12 girls who defeated St Michaels in the Championship. The girls battled back from the concession of two early goals to win by 5 points. Well done to the U10 girls who made their debuts with this team as a result of several regular players being injured or on holidays. Thanks also to all the supporters who turned out on a wet, dreary evening to cheer and encourage the team. The next game for these girls will be tonight, Tuesday 9th August, against Owenmore Gaels in Collooney @ 7pm. Our U14 panel travelled to Ballymote on Friday evening for the first game in their Championship. Unfortunately the game did not take place and the girls had to settle for an additional training session.
The club would like to thank Peter Gallagher, Sligo Carpets and Flooring, and George Sherlock, Sherlock Butchers, Cartron, for generously sponsoring two new football kits for the U8 and U10 teams. After a busy schedule when they displayed their footballing ability around the County, the players and coaches are on a well- earned break. Training for these boys and girls will resume again shortly.
Training continues for the U12 and U14 girls on Monday and Wednesday at 7pm with the U10 girls training on Wednesday evenings also.
There was no winner of the Lotto jackpot on 24th July. The winners of 40 euros each were: Josephine Conlon, Jason Lang, Helen Davey and Grainne Gethins. Details of the latest draw which took place last Sunday will be included in next week’s notes.
Ballisodare GAC would like to express their sympathy to the Dooner Family on the recent passing of Rita Dooner. Both Rita and her late husband Tom were great supporters of our club over the years. May they both rest in peace.

INTERMEDIATE Championship Result: Owenmore Gaels 1- 11 Geevagh 3- 10 WE went down to Geevagh on Saturday evening in Ballymote after a close encounter with one of the championship favourites. We were two up after a wind assisted first half but conceded two goals in second and couldn’t convert our own goal chances. Aaron Nicholson was excellent in the forward line kicking an exhibition of points while our best player was minor Brian Mahon who drove us on from midfield throughout, in an outstanding individual performance. We play Castleconnor next Saturday where a win would secure a quarter final place. TEAM: Gavin Phelan, Garrett Lavin, Kealan Bolton, Eoin Kilroy, Peter Wynne ( Dessie Flynn), Jason Farrell, Pa Murphy, Brian Mahon, Niall Hodgins, Glen McCormack, Michael Casey ( 0- 1), Conor Davey, Ryan Philips ( 1- 2), Aaron Nicholson ( 0- 7), Paul Hannon ( Stanley Harte). We continued to dominate for most of the second half with further scores coming from the sticks of Aaron Mulvey ( 1- 2), Liam O’Kelly- Lynch ( 1- 0), Robert O’Kelly- Lynch ( 0- 3), and Michael Morgan ( 0- 1). The next game will be against Benbulben Gaels on Friday week ( 19th August). Our minor hurlers earned a place for themselves in the championship shield final following their narrow win over Coolera/ Strandhill in a thrilling Round 4 game played in Ransboro. In a very evenly contested game it was our opponents who, in spite of playing against the wind, enjoyed a slender lead at half- time 1- 9 to 1- 7. Although we upped our performance in the second half, we could never establish a substantial lead and in the end we depended on a late Donal Fidgeon point to secure a one point win on a 2- 14 to 2- 13 scoreline. Cathal Jordan and second half sub Cian Muldowney were outstanding in defence, while goalkeeper Darragh Cawley made some crucial saves.
