ACCOMMODATION ON CAMPUS IS THE BEST OPTION FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
THE accommodation situation for students here is improving, according to St Angela’s College Student Union President Yvonne Hynes.
The Lough Gill college falls under the NUI Galway banner, and Yvonne says the college is busy with new students coming in, but not as bad as previous years.
“In totality, we’ve noticed an increase of the number of available accommodation options in Sligo including more units open to students with the student villages such as Ard Nua,” Yvonne said.
“This has had a knock on effect meaning we’ve had fewer phone calls than we have in recent years from people feeling hopeless about accommodation.”
Yvonne says there are a variety of accommodation options available to students attending the college, both on- campus and in Sligo town.
“Our students in St. Angela’s have the option of campus accommodation, student villages in Sligo town, privately renting houses or apartment and renting digs from homeowners.
“Sligo is lucky to a degree that the accommodation situation is not as bad here as it is for students in other counties such as Galway and Dublin.”
For first years in particular, Yvonne says on- campus ac- commodation may be the best option for the start of their college careers.
“As always, student accommodation is a popular choice for first year students and we recommend contacting these offices as early as possible.
“Even in this late stage now though, they get regular cancellations and take fresh bookings where possible. St Angela’s students have the additional option of the student residences here on campus too, which we found was where the majority of 1st year students lived last year.”
