Chance to get your stolen goods back

- By PAUL DEERING

Anyone who has had property stolen in a burglary could get lucky next Thursday as Gardaí intend putting photographs of dozens of recovered items on display in the hope of reuniting it with its owners.

It’s all part of Garda National Property Recovery Day and will take place at Ballymote Garda Station where the public will be invited to view pictures of of stolen property in the force’s possession.

Every Garda Division in the country will be hosting the event.

Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Jim Fox, who is based at Sligo Garda Station said: “While most stolen property is returned to owners within a short period of time, some stolen property can remain in Garda custody for protracted periods until the owner of the property is identified.”

Two locations have been selected for the display of photographs of property in Garda custody in the Sligo/ Leitrim Garda Division.

These are the Victims Services Office in Carrick- OnShannon Garda Station where members of the Victims Service Office will be in attendance and at Ballymote Garda Station where Sergeant Fox will be in attendance.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit these locations on Thursday 22nd of September 2016 between 10am and 4pm to view photographs of items of recovered property.

The photographs will include jewellery, purses, electrical tools, and electronic devices which have been recovered in the Sligo/ Leitrim Garda Division.

Recovered property will also be available to view on line via the Garda website www. garda. ie

Information leaflets in respect of aspects of crime prevention will also be available for collection on the day.

Gardaí are confident that they will be able to reunite owners with their property.
