Boost for Ireland West airport as it gets € 1.3m in funding
IRELAND West Airport today welcomed the announcement of funding to the amount of € 1,314,000 from the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport.
The funding is provided at 75% grant aid level to support Safety and Security Projects under the Regional Airports Programme 2015- 2019.
The Programme provides for Exchequer support to support various safety and security projects to be carried out at the airport in 2016.
Joe Kennedy, Chairman, Ireland West Airport said: “We welcome today’s announcement of funding by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross which will assist the airport in undertaking important safety and security related projects such as runway lighting, drainage, CCTV runway protection, generator housing, and the upgrade of existing equipment at the airport in 2016.
“We acknowledge the continued support from Government and look forward to continuing to work with them on a long term commitment and investment to support the Airport’s growth and development plans.”
Airports in Donegal, Kerry and Waterford also received funding under the Regional Airports Programme 2015- 2019, which was approved last year by the EU Commission and administered by the Minister’s Department. funding support that I am announcing today will assist with capital investment on various projects at the four regional airports over the coming months in the areas of safety and security such as CCTV monitoring equipment, repairs to taxiways, aprons and perimeter roads, upgrades to electrical systems and winter- ready equipment.”
