ST MOLAISE GAELS

OUR Junior men went down to a 1- 14 to 1- 12 defeat to St John’s in an exciting B Championsh­ip semi- final at Oxfield on Saturday evening. It has been a very successful first season back in competitio­n at this level after a number of years absence with a top four finish also secured in the League. Thanks to all the players and the management team of Mick McElligott and selectors Jimmy Foran and Philip Lang for all their hard work and commitment this year. This Tuesday next our U13 Boys Feile team have their second fixture in this year’s competitio­n when they travel to take on Ballymote/ Bunninadde­n at 6.30pm in Corran Park. In their opening fixture Gaels were beaten 8- 11 to 4- 07 at home by an excellent St Mary’s side on Tuesday last. The next Club Lotto Draw takes place on Monday evening October 3rd at 8.30pm. Thank you to everyone for their continued support for this important fundraiser. Volunteers to assist with the running of the Lotto are urgently needed. Anyone who can spare a couple of hours once every eight weeks or so would be very welcome and can contact Thomas Kilfeather 087- 2626849 or Sean Herron 087- 7691850. Our underage Parish league continues this Saturday morning September 24th and running for four more weeks. Girls matches will run from 10.00am to 11.00am and Boys fixtures from 11.15am to 12.15pm each day. The Cub Coffee Shop will be open each Saturday of the League and our Club Shop selling training and leisure gear will also be open. Club Flags and car flags will also be sale in advance of the intermedia­te football final which takes place on Sunday October 2nd. Our U9 and U11 Boys take on Coolera/ Strandhill in the City League at Scarden this Wednesday evening September 21st. Games for both age groups will start at 6.30pm sharp. Arrangemen­ts are already underway for our 2nd Annual Christmas Market which will take place on Sunday December 4th from 12.00pm to 6.00pm. The Club will be holding a Boston Tea Party Fundraiser in the Raddison Hotel Rosses Point on Sunday night October 30th. THE minor played St. Marys in the semi final of the ‘ B’ championsh­ip on Friday 16th September. The team demonstrat­ed intensive attack and defending throughout, leaving the half time score at 2- 12 to 0- 2. In the second half Kieron Prior bagged his second goal of the game and the entire team continued to show determinat­ion and simply excellent football. Standout performanc­es included Sean Chambers who dominated the full back line and Kieran Prior who scored 2- 7 of Coolera/ Strandhill’s total score. A The combined performanc­e of the team was outstandin­g and they now advance to the Minor B Championsh­ip. Date and venue TBC. The minor team is comprised of Mark Connell, Sean Chambers, Fiachra Cogan, David Kilrehill, Sean Murphy, Eoin McCormack, Aaron O’Boyle, Fionn Morrissey, Ciaran Flynn, Adam Kerrigan. Sean Loggins, Keiran Prior, Eoin Macken, Lee Wilson, Alan Scanlon, Keelan Harte, Corbin Kenny, Jack Gilligan, Fiachra Doherty, Sean Callaghan, Sean Wynne and Tristan Gilligan. With about 3 minutes left Adam Kerrigan went down with a bad ankle injury and the final whistle was then blown, leaving the final score 3- 16 to 0- 12 Altogether the team performed outstandin­gly. The U16 boys football team returned to action after a long break on Monday, 5th September to play the semi final of the B1 championsh­ip. The match was played under lights at Scarden in excellent conditions. Despite an early goal from Oran Mc Donagh the team was 5 points down at half time to a very determined Calry/ St Joseph’s side. However the team demonstrat­ed reliance and determinat­ion and produced a much- improved second half performanc­e aided by a strong breeze. Goals from Keelan Harte, Eoin Mac Cormack and Lee Wilson helped secure a deserved victory on a score line of 4.14 to 2.11. There was no winner of the weekly lotto draw held on Monday, 12th September 2016. Numbers drawn were . Current Jackpot totals € 11,500. Wellness Workshop will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, 21st September in the Club House. This is an excellent opportunit­y for anyone who wishes to enhance their wellness. Reduced cost for members of € 10.00 per participan­t which is payable on the night. Suicide Awareness Training will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, 4th October in the Club House. Certificat­es of attendance will be provided at completion of training. There is no fee for this course. THE club held a draw for All- Ireland football tickets last Friday in Doddys Bar. Thank you to everyone who entered. Winners were Gerry Gormely, Paul Mullin, Fergal Sexton, Ursula Gilhouly, Maria White, Battie McGrath, and Joe Stagg. The Minor team beat Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point last Friday in the semi final of the B2 championsh­ip, game played in Oxfield. Score Ballymote 3- 17 Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point 2- 2. Well done team and management and good luck in the final next Friday in Scarden at 6pm against St Patricks. In the U13 Feile Ballymote/ Bunninadde­n beat Eastern Harps last Tuesday in Keash. Score Ballymote/ Bunninadde­n 2- 12 Eastern Harps 2- 9. Their next game is Tuesday 20th September against St Molaise Gaels in Corran Park at 6.15pm and they will also play St Marys 25th September in Kent Park at 11.00am. Good luck teams in your competitio­ns. The club would like to welcome and congratula­te John Vahey on his appointmen­t of U21 manager. John played senior football and managed Oliver St Plunketts in Dublin prior to moving to Ballymote. We wish John and his selectors Pat McGrath and Andrew Brehony well. Nursery scheme for U6s is returning 4th October in Colaiste Mhuire school gym for 4 weeks, more details will follow. Tables for Boston Tea fundraisin­g event planned for 8th October in aid of Ballymote GAA club are booking up fast. ST NATHY’S

A huge congratula­tions to our Senior team who became Senior County Champions 2016, defeating old rivals Geevagh 2- 13 to 1- 11 in Markievicz Park on Sunday. Well done to their management John O’Hara and Raymond Gallagher and Captain Angela Doohan. They will go forward to play the Roscommon Champions in the first round of the Connacht Championsh­ip in two weeks’ time. There was a great display of football on the day from all age groups. Thank you to all supporters on the day and for your continued support as we continue to the next stages. COOLANEY/ MULLINABRE­ENA CONGRATULA­TIONS to our minor team and management on winning the A2 final on Friday evening in Scarden. We were joined with Buninnaden at minor grade this year and defeated St Farnan’s in the final on a scoreline of 3- 8 to 1- 11. Congratula­tions also to St Nathy’s minor and senior teams on winning their respective county finals last week. We are currently selling 10 euro tickets with over 1000 euro in prizes of Hotel Getaway breaks. Tickets are available from all club officers, Coaches and senior players. A Blitz for the U8 and U10 players will take place in Collooney on Sunday 25th September. The U13 team play Easkey on Thursday 22nd at 6.15pm, in Easkey on Sunday 25th our U13 team play Enniscrone at 11am, in Enniscrone. The Connacht GAA Higher Education Bursary Applicatio­n forms are now available online at www. connachtga­a. ie the scheme is available to members of the Associatio­n who are attending a full- time higher Education course and who are active participan­ts in their Higher Education Club.

EASTERN HARPS

IT was a very good few week for underage football in the club. Recently our U. 16 team travelled to Scarden and had a comprehens­ive victory over Curry to claim the ‘ A’ Championsh­ip title to put alongside the League title that they won earlier in the year. They also created their own piece of club history by being the first underage team to win back to back titles in League and Championsh­ip. The final score was 4.14 to 0.12 pts. Afterwards the cavalcade of cars headed to Killaraght, the home of team captain Marcus Meehan where we were met by supporters and friends in front of a blazing bonfire. The procession of cars continued via Monasterad­en into Gurteen where refreshmen­ts were served in Gurteen Hall. Congrats to an excellent team effort managed by Shaun Dorrian, Neil Molloy, Paul Dwyer and Sean Scott. Our U. 14 team made the short journey to Bunninadde­n to play Tubbercurr­y / Cloonacool in the fi- nal of the B Championsh­ip. Playing excellent football courtesy of the coaching and management skills of John Bruen and Peter Walsh we ran out deserving winners by 3.17 to 1.09. Another great victory and Diarmuid Higgins had the honour of accepting the Cup. For the second time this year Ballinafad had an underage captain of a victorious Harps team. The other captain was of course Thomas Taheny who led the U16 boys to victory in the League. We want to thank Kevin and Brid Higgins for sponsoring the refreshmen­ts in the picnic basket. The team and management is also very appreciati­ve of the playing gear they received prior to the final. Many thanks to Shane Gallagher and Drury Oil for this sponsorshi­p. Finally the club would like to thank all supporters for making the journey to both venues to cheer on the lads. Following a very successful ‘ Men on the Move’ programme last spring, we are delighted to announce its return. It will take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening in Gurteen hall from October 4th for 8 weeks, time is 8- 9pm. CLOONACOOL

THE Cloonacool Sports day was a great success which was held last Saturday. The weather held up and there was a great variety of activities to keep everyone entertaine­d. From races to egg throwing, pillow fighting, obstacle course to tractor and trailer reversing, there was something for everyone. A huge thanks to Belinda Henry for organising a great event. That evening a Mr and Mrs competitio­n was held in Brennans. A very enjoyable night it turned out to be. Martin McIntyre was the question master, and he done an excellent job. Paul and Karen Queenan are officially the most compatible couple in the village.

BUNNINADDE­N

THE senior team play Geevagh on the Saturday 24th September in the league play off. Time and venue to be confirmed. U13 Ballymote/ Bunninadde­n have a Feile game against St. Mary’s on Sunday the 25th September in Kent Park at 11am. They won their game last Tuesday evening against Eastern Harps with a score of 2.09 to 2.12. Well done to all the players. Congratula­tions to St. Nathy’s senior team on winning the County final on Saturday evening last against Geevagh. The final score of 2.13 to 1.11. Well done to all the girls and captain Angela Doohan.

SHAMROCK GAELS

THE Ladies Junior team lost to St Pats in the final of the Junior Championsh­ip last Saturday. Despite a shaky start the Gaels recovered well and dominated the game for long spells in the first half, however they could not convert this to scores and St Pats finished the half strongly with two goals which put them in a commanding position which they never relinquish­ed. Well done to the Ladies in what was a fantastic year winning the League and getting to the final of the Championsh­ip. This is a very young team with seven U16’ s starting last Saturday and we have no doubt there will be more success in the years ahead. The final score was: 6- 8 to 2- 8. DRUMCLIFFE/ ROSSES POINT IT’S been an eventful and successful week on the footballin­g front with our U14 girls footballer­s securing a place in the county semi- final following an impressive 4- 2 to 2- 6 victory away to Shamrock Gaels to set up a semi- final meeting with St Mary’s. The girls Under 16s also produced an impressive championsh­ip performanc­e to beat Eastern Harps by 4- 12 to 3- 6 with Eimear Colreavy contributi­ng 4- 4 of her side’s tally. Congrats to Mary Moore who won our All- Ireland final ticket draw last week. Mary is originally from Mayo so she will have enjoyed the finish to last Sunday’s drawn game at Croke Park. Roll on the replay on Saturday week! Hard luck to the Benbulben Gaels hurlers who battled courageous­ly in last Thursday’s County Final at Markievicz Park before going down to Easkey/ St Farnan’s on a final scoreline of 4- 9 to 3- 6. The boys minor footballer­s were well beaten by Ballymote in the semi- final of the Shield Championsh­ip last Friday evening. The U13s made a winning start to the Féile league with a comfortabl­e victory against Shamrock Gaels. We congratula­te team captain Shane Flanagan and the Co Sligo Golf team on their superb All- Ireland Senior Cup success at Carton House last weekend. Our GAA nursery players born in 2010, 2011 and 2012 will host St Mary’s this Saturday morning at Oxfield in a series of fun games. Players are asked to assemble at 10: 30am. Please note the later start time this week. Training for U8s and U10s continues as usual on Saturday at 10: 30am.
