Crowd gather to enjoy an evening of culture
There were two new event venues taking part in Culture Night this year. Ballymote Library took part in the night’s festivities for the second year running.
On the night they welcomed back the award winning Hermit Collective whose art work was on display throughout the night along with live performances and poetry. They celebrated the wealth of local talented poets, musicians, artists, crafters, knitters and much more. Also on display was an exhibition of the work produced by the talented library groups: The Saturday Stitchers, The Crafty Catch Up and the Artists Co- Op while also sharing a display of photos of the performances and talks given at Rambling House at the library.
Branch Librarian Louise Mc Grath was delighted for Ballymote Library to host culture night for the second year running: “It’s very important for local areas to come together and celebrate their own cultural production, to recognise and celebrate their own unique expression of Irish culture.
“The library is here to facilitate that, a neutral space that welcomes everyone at every stage of their life and creative journey, enabling them to access information and inspiration to develop their own contribution to our shared cultural expression.”
Keash Hall also hosted a number of events to mark the night. They had an evening of local poets, storytellers and songwriters, supported by traditional music which featured local legends of Caves of Keash, local holy wells, fairy myths the origin of Ogham and humorous local country tales.
