1917 MAC DIARMADA PRINT

A 1917 print of Seán Mac Diarmada, which has been fully restored, was recently presented to Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre.

Elaborating on the details of this historic print of the 1916 patriot and its fascinating story, the Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre’s Paul Gibson states ‘ a 99- year- old antique print, commemorating 1916 Easter Rising leader Seán Mac Diarmada, was recently presented to the people of Kiltyclogher by Hugh Feeney and his partner Mary Mac Intyre.

‘ They’d bought it in an auction house in Dublin and decided that it belonged in Kiltyclogher. A newspaper dated January 17, 1917, is attached to the back of the print.’

Paul Gibson explains the major role that New York native Jane Chambers Wright, who now lives in the former Corracloona National School where Mac Diarmada received his primary education, played in 1917 print’s restoration.’

BEE PARK VANDALISM

The ugly head of vandalism raised itself once again in Manorhamilton recently, when the town’s leading sport facility in the Bee Park was attacked, resulting in considerable and annoying damage for all who use the dressing rooms there.

In a comment shortly afterwards on the matter, Manor Rangers stated that the club was ‘ absolutely disgusted this afternoon to discover that some mindless thug has broken into the dressing room area in the Bee Park.

‘ The door to the control room and referees room were put in and both are so badly damaged they will have to be replaced. A first aid kit was also interfered with. All keys for the various dressing and storage rooms have also been stolen.

‘ Someone out there must know which thug or thugs are responsible for this criminal damage. ( The) matter has been reported to the Gardaí who are investigating. If anyone is able to help identify these vandals please contact Manorhamilton Garda Station.’
