Two of Sligo’s very own guitar maestros, Seamie O’Dowd and Shane McGowan will perform a gig this Wednesday the 21st September in the Hawk’s Well Theatre. All proceeds from the evening will go towards Dick Gaughan who is ill at the minute. A guitar lover’s ideal night of music, not to be missed. Tickets are € 18/€ 15 with a special rate of € 9 for U18s.
2 SLIGO BAROQUE FESTIVAL
Starting this Friday the 23rd of September at 8pm, an opening concert will kick off the Sligo Baroque Festival festivities. It has been going for twenty one years and is not to be missed. Live music and performances from various musicians are taking place all weekend in the Model. This Friday, September 25th at 11pm, guitarist Carla O’Neil will take to the stage in 5th on Teeling. The singer/ song writer has played at Electric Picnic and Sea Sessions and will perform a mix of covers as well as her own original work. Admission is free.

Sligo Film Society makes a welcomed return to The Model this autumn, with an exciting new programme of Arthouse Films. Running from this Thursday, Books & Wine is an event designed to whet the appetite of even the most reluctant reader. The host is passionate book reader Vanessa Job. Guests can share their passion for a favourite book and present a wine that complements the writing. Guest speaker for the first event is Luke Henderson who will discuss ‘ Blood Meridian’ by Cormac McCarthy. Bernard Daly from Hargadons will supply some wine. The event is € 12 ( includes the wine). 10 THE MATCHMAKER
City Theatre Dublin presents The Matchmaker at the Hawk’s Well on Saturday 24th of September at 8pm, based on the novella Letters of a County Matchmaker by John B Keane. This production stars television favourite Mary McEvoy, best known for her role as Biddie in the long running RTE series Glenroe and Irish actor and comedian Jon Kenny who was half of the Irish comic duo d’Unbelievables alongside Pat Shortt. Together they play a myriad of characters in this hilarious and earthy dramatic comedy.
