Gardai warn motorists to be vigilant as 7 car break- ins in 3 days

GARDAI in Sligo are appealing to motorists to be vigilant when leaving their cars unattended after a spate of break- ins this week.

Seven cars were broken into in the space of four days in various locations around the county.

Tourists were the main targets and gardaí are telling people to be extra careful when leaving property in their cars.

A Garda spokespers­on said the incidents all took place between last Thursday and yesterday.

There were seven break- ins during that time.

Gardaí explained they all took place in public places and it appeared tourists were the main targets.

The seven thefts took place across the four days and the locations were Grange, the car- park in Drumcliffe, Lidl in Cranmore and also the car- park at Sligo County Council.

The main items that were taken during the break- ins were handbags and also electrical equipment.

The Garda spokespers­on said: “It’s quite a lot of incidents in a short space of time.

“The back windows on the cars are being broken and also in some cases, the passenger windows.

“We are advising the anyone not to leave property in their cars. Even leaving it in the boot is not guaranteei­ng that it won’t be taken. We are also appealing to anyone who may have been in these vicinities and spotted anything to contact Sligo Garda Station on 071 9157000,” the spokespers­on added.
