Sligo Leitrim see off Inishowen

-

SLIGO LEITRIM INISHOWEN 5 4 SLIGO Leitrim U15s were one goal winners over Inishowen in a nine goal thriller this weekend.

Sligo Leitrim started brightly and won a penalty kick following great work by Sean Kerrigan.

Kerrigan picked himself up to calmly slot home the penalty and this should have given the visitors the platform to take control of the game.

However, this wasn’t the case and the home side scored two goals in quick succession to take a 2- 1 lead after 25mins.

That man Kerrigan evened things up with a superb solo goal and again this looked like the spark needed by the Sligo Leitrim lads.

Yet again poor defending was the visitors’ downfall when they failed to deal with a corner kick and Luke Roddan scored with a free header to leave Inishowen leading by 3 - 2 at the break.

The half time break saw the introduction of Stand Celtic’s Luke Glennon and he worked his magic within three minutes of the re- start to score the equaliser.

Two minutes later Sligo Leitrim gained the lead with Seamas Keogh winning the ball in midfield and as he cut across the 18 yard box his powerful shot found the bottom corner of the net to make the score 4- 3.

Sligo Leitrim went 5- 3 up when Bryan Lynch found himself unmarked at the back post to head home a superb free kick from Caoilte Brannigan.

The visitors were now in control of the game and could have extended their lead with Kerrigan going close on two occasions.

Inishowen managed to weather the storm and with five minutes left scored again from a poorly defended corner, thankfully Sligo Leitrim managed to see out the remaining few minutes to hang onto the victory.

A very entertaining game for the neutral with a notable debut for Jack Davitt from Benbulben Celtic but the Sligo Leitrim lads will certainly be working hard on their defensive game in the coming weeks under coaches Marcel Gordon, Conor O’Grady and Paul Masterson.

Both the players and coaches were delighted to celebrate Seamas Keogh’s call up to the Ireland U 15 squad for the forthcoming game v Poland.
