SOME 200 people took on the Hell & Back Challenge on Saturday as a fundraiser in aid of Rory Gallagher’s wish to walk.

Rory ( 4) is from Cliffoney and has cerebral palsy and is due to travel to the USA on December 9th for further surgeries which will allow him to progress with his wish to walk.

Well known sporting personalities such as boxers Andy Lee and Gary ‘ Spike’ O’Sullivan along with former Irish rugby international, Shane Byrne took on the Hell and Back challenge for young Rory. It was Andy who lead out the team.

Rory’s mum, Shauna and dad, Gerry also took part in the gruelling event in Temple House. Shauna said the ice- baths were the highlight of the her day. Mr Ireland, Darren King along with well know Comedian Al Foran kept the spirits of Team Rory up throughout the course.

The team’s winner on the day was Declan Geraghty, an up and coming Dublin based boxer who finished the course in 1hr 20 mins. Shauna and Gerry were delighted with the support for their little boy. Shauna said: “It’s overwhelming to think that so many people wish to see our wee Rory succeed with his wish to walk.’’

She added: “Rory understands that Santa will be visiting him in the USA this year and while he is a little nervous about going back into hospital, he is still full of excitement.

“Gerry and I wish to thank everyone who took part on the day along with the people who sponsored our Hell and Back warriors,” said Shauna, pictured with Rory and part of the team.
