Carney is hit by vandalism spree

A vandalism spree in North Sligo is being investigat­ed by Gardaí.

Some € 600 in damage was caused at the home of Yeats United FC located in the village of Carney in recent days.

Windows were broken and also the perspex glass in the pitchside dugouts were also smashed.

The club’s Facebook page stated that huge efforts were going into maintainin­g the ground and fundraisin­g for the club’s various teams.

“That hard raised money now has to go to repairs and upgrading security.”

The incident has been reported to An Garda Siochana who are seeking informatio­n from the public in relation to this and also other acts of vandalism atthe Oxfield Centre and around the village in general.

Anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact Yeats United or Grange Garda station on ( 071) 9163144. There were also acts of vandalism at the Riverside Walk in Carney with paint being thrown on park benches and what appears to have been eggs also smashed. The local Tidy Towns group have expressed dismay at the incidents.

“It is with great sadness to see this type of vandalism in our beautiful village where the residents take great pride in where they live. Whoever done this should be ashamed of themselves. Anyone who has any informatio­n, no matter how small please report it to guards.

“The park is for the enjoyment of the community and the volunteers of Carney Tidy Towns work hard to maintain the park.

“The incident has been reported to An Garda Siochana who are seeking informatio­n from the public in relation to the damage,” said a post on the group’s Facebook page.
