Tributes to young Calry footballer who passed away

TRIBUTES have been paid to a young footballer in his early twenties who died in tragic circumstan­ces last week.

Calry Bohs player, Michael Cryan was buried on Sunday at Clogher Cemetery after funeral service at Calry Parish Church at 2pm.

Michael is survived by his parents, Michael and Lorna, brother, Glenn and sister, Melissa and extended family.

As a mark of respect, Calry Bohs Super League match in the Sligo and Leitrim District Soccer League on Sunday against Glenview Stars was postponed.

The league has extended its sympathy to Michael’s family and club. He passed away last Thursday.

In a post on its Facebook page, Calry Bohemians described Michael as a gentleman.

“The club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Cryan. Michael was one of the good guys and could only be described as a gentleman.

“Michael was a left footed, skilful and intelligen­t footballer. Michael played underage with Bohs where he was a part of successful underage teams before graduating to the men’s team.

“On behalf of all involved with Calry Bohemians I would like to extend our deepest condolence­s to the Cryan family at this extremely difficult time.

“May you Rest in Peace Michael.”

Calry/ St Joseph’s GAA club also paid a tribute.

“The club was plunged into grieving this week following the sudden and tragic death of Michael Cryan.

“Michael played and excelled at all ages and levels for the club,” said a spokespers­on extending sympathy to his parents and brother and sister.

There was a guard of honour by the club at the family home at Faught’s Lane on Saturday from 1pm when Michael was reposing there.

Michael’s death notice asked mourners to make donations if they desired to ‘ A Lust For Life’, care of Seamus Feehily & Son Funeral Directors or any family member in lieu of flowers.
