THE Choirmaste­rs for this year’s Sligo Sings programme are as follows:

Niamh Crowley, Director of Music at the Sligo Academy of Music is choir master with two groups: the Pensions Office Choir and volunteer centre.

Niamh was more than happy to be involved again this year: “What I’m really enjoying this year is that I’m back with two choirs the volunteer group that I had last year so it’s nice to see some familiar faces and the new choir.

“To be honest everyone is so enthusiast­ic and up for it we’ve had great fun choosing the songs and it’s been great.”

Roisin Egan is choirmaste­r for the Community Choir. Having a rich background in music she was only delighted to be involved in this year’s programme.

She said: “I’ve been directing choirs for a number of years but the excitement is different with this choir, everyone has been so eager I was surprised.

“People even come up to me afterwards saying they never realised they could sing and that they need a choir after this is over!”

Amy O’Hara is a singer/ songwriter and credits her work with the Orpheus Choir in allowing her to help with this year’s Sligo Sings: “I am delighted to be involved it’s a challenge for me.

“It’s one thing to sing, but it’s another to organise everyone else. That’s what this programme is all about, enjoyment!”

Dave Flynn, a music teacher at the Mercy College and an equally busy gigging musician has taken on two choirs this year.

He is choirmaste­r to the Sligo County Council and the Hospital.

Ray Cotter is regularly involved with choirs across Sligo and is choirmaste­r for the IT Sligo choir.

Michele Feeney is a profession­ally trained singer and with 20 years experience she is choirmaste­r for Abbott’s.

Maureen Howley is choir master with Markievicz House and is excited for everyone to hear the final pieces of music.
