his right.

That attempt from Shiels summed up Dundalk’s night in front of goal.

An audacious 40 yard volley from Cretaro almost made it 4- 0 as he unleashed his effort having spotted Gary Rogers off his line, but he just put too much on it, seeing his effort land on top of the net.

An excellent double save from Nugent with seconds left on the clock ensured a fourth consecutive clean sheet for Rovers and for the American, which sees the Bit o’Red in fifth place as they take on Longford Town this Friday night.

Referee: Ben Connolly. REGAN Donelon has become the latest player to commit his future to Sligo Rovers, signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2018 season.

Donelon joins Craig Roddan, Micheal Schlingermann, Kieran Sadlier, Daniel Kearns, Raff Cretaro, Tobi Adebayo- Rowling, Gary Armstrong, Mikey Place and Gary Boylan in signing up for next season.

Donelon has been a regular at left- back for Rovers for well over a year.

The 20 year- old was a constant in the team all season until an injury sustained in July kept him out of action before a recent return to playing.

Donelon made his debut after progressing through the under- 19 team in May 2014 against Bray wanderers. After a loan spell with Finn Harps at the start of the 2015 season he cemented a place in the team on his return that he has retained ever since.

In total Donelon has played 43 times in the Bit o’Red.

He was also recently nominated for Rovers young player of the season for 2016. ROVERS penultimate home game of the season, against Longford Town, has been moved forward by 24 hours to assist Dundalk’s fixture congestion.

The game will now take place on Friday, October 14th, instead of Saturday the 15th.

Following this game, Rovers will have two remaining games to play before the season’s end - away to Derry City and home to Wexford Youths.
