GEEVAGH
FOR the second time in as many weeks we are coming to terms with a sad loss for our club. Helen Curneen, who sadly passed away during the week, was an ardent supporter of the club and a devoted follower of our many teams. She was a constant presence regardless of venue, time of throw in or weather conditions. Helen was a genuine supporter and was particularly proud of the contribution of her many grandchildren. To her son Padraig, daughters Margaret, Geraldine and Josephine and large extended family we offer our deepest sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. THE Intermediate footballers got back to winning ways with a narrow victory over Bunninadden in a rescheduled play off gave at Scarden last Saturday. We now face Drumcliffe in the Division 2 final where the winner will be promoted to the top tier. OUR U- 16 girls have qualified for the Championship final which is due to be played on Sunday next. Coolera or Curry will provide the opposition at a venue to be decided. THE club executive meets on Thursday evening next and all members are reminded to have outstanding 200 Club subscriptions on the night. CONGRATULATIONS to the boys of Geevagh N. S. who claimed gold at the County Cross Country Championships and has qualified for the Connaught Championships at Sligo IT next Saturday.
NAOMH EOIN
WE are very proud and impressed with the great performance but ultimately heartbreaking loss by one point after extra time in a pulsating, epic Sligo SHC semi- final replay against Coolera/ Strandhill at the Sligo GAA Centre last Saturday evening. Perfect conditions made for a high- scoring and very tight encounter and our depleted and youthful senior team were 1- 11 to 1- 10 up at half- time with our talisman Gerard O’Kelly- Lynch providing the goal in typical all action style to equalise the game early in the half. Paul Kilcoyne also scored three super points from play to take the fight to our local rivals. Coolera however fought back and some great defending from keeper Michael Healy and backs David Hickey, Cathal Jordan, and Geoff Corcoran limited the Coolera scores in a free- flowing and high quality game. THE second half was an even tighter affair with scores harder to come by. However we managed to add 4 points to our total and hold Coolera scoreless after 15 mins into the second half with Tony O’Kelly- Lynch particularly accurate from play and placed balls. We held our lead until Coolera had a purple patch towards the end of normal time, scoring 1- 2 without reply to give them a one point lead with minutes to play. Just like the semi- final it was teenager Tony O’Kelly- Lynch who held his nerve to fire over the equaliser on the whistle from a free with the FT score 1- 17 to 2- 14. THE game then went to extra- time which was just as eventful as normal time. Coolera got the best start with three points in succession
