JONATHAN Dolan stormed to victory at the Connacht Open held in Summerhill College by the Sligo City Badminton Club.

He beat Stuart Lightbody in the singles and Stuart Lightbody and Crona Rooney in the mixed doubles.

It’s a great win for the local man and a real boost for his confidence.

Commenting after the games, Dolan said: “Feeling great to be back and competing and of course winning is the icing on the cake but most importantly I’m just back enjoying playing again after missing so much badminton when I was injured.

“The singles, I found tough physically by the time I had got to the final so I don’t feel like I performed to my best in that match but other than that I think I played well.

“I’d like to thank anyone that made the effort to either play or come down and watch the day’s play and I hope you enjoyed it.

“This was a very well run competition so hopefully more players will come next year,” he said.

Under 17 star Adam McAllister and partner Brian O’Mahony lost out in the men’s doubles final.

They came up against stiff opposition in the form of Daniel Magee, brother of Rio 2016 Olympian Chloe Magee, and partner Eddie Cousins.

Unseeded Adam and Brian did well to beat the number one seeded pairing of John Finnegan and Jack O’Brian.

Sinead Chambers and Jennie King had a titanic battle in the first set against Kate Frost and Moya Ryan.

In a set that is supposed to finish at 21 unless it is all square at 20, this set reached 27- 25 in favour of Sinead and Jennie.

Unfortunately for Kate Frost and Moya Ryan the pairing of Sinead and Jennie proved too strong in the second set and lost 21- 12.

In the Ladies Singles Beth Stephenson commanded the game and won very convincingly over Lucie Corcoran winning 21- 5, 21- 14. Pic:
