Cranmore children awarded for clean streets campaign
Nearly 20 local children were awarded for their work promoting the environment in Cranmore last week.
Eighteen children, from seven to 13- years- old, took part in a summer project which endorsed being environmentally friendly. Launched by Cranmore Community Co- Op and Youth City, kids benefited from anti- litter awareness workshops, flower planting, and poster competitions. Two overall winners were selected for their exceptional anti- litter poster designs while all children were presented with certificates of participation. The project also involved 11 residents associations who each nominated someone in their community to be presented with flower boxes designed by the children. Sue Mahon, Cranmore Community Development Worker, offered her congratulations to all involved.
She said: “A big congratulations to Kayley Loftus Cawley and Niamh O’Donnell who were joint overall winners for their exceptional anti- litter designs. Both girls were presented with an art hamper on the night. More than 33 adults and 18 children were engaged through the project. Kids learned from child friendly creative workshops on litter awareness, and they also learned about recycling and how to divide litter between plastic, paper, glass and compost. I also want to thank the children for engaging in the project and encourage to keep up the good work.”
The project was funded by Sligo County Council under the anti- litter awareness grant scheme.
