Reeling in the years in Carrick
AS the saying goes, ‘ time flies when you’re having fun’, but none more so than in the magical world of movies where we are transported to another world and another place!
It is now 10 years since Carrick Cineplex, the multiple award- winning independent cinema opened its doors to an eager movie- loving public, who loyally patronise their cinema, café and wine bar with the same enthusiasm as in the first weeks of launching back in 2005.
A friendly, hospitable boutique cinema, it has grown into a social hub with a community focus, appealing to and embracing all ages. Whether you’re looking for the latest Hollywood releases or world and art house movies from Carrick Film Society, from Autism- friendly films to live Opera screenings from New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, or monthly Alzheimer Memory Café meetings, to local Book Club and Writers gatherings in the cosy art- deco style Café Paradiso, Carrick Cineplex has it all.
Throughout the years, Carrick Cineplex has forged strong links with the Irish film industry, actively programming and promoting Irish films and documentaries. They have hosted many esteemed Irish directors such a Terry McMahon ( Patrick’s Day), Conor Horgan ( The Queen of Ireland) and Risteard O’Domhnaill ( Atlantic, The Pipe) for engaging and lively post- film ‘ Question’s & Answers’ discussion sessions. In recent years with significant investment in state- of- the art ‘ Sony 4K’ Digital projectors, Carrick Cineplex introduced live broadcasts of world class opera, theatre, concerts and ballet in real- time to local and regional audiences.
