A 35- year- old man who left the scene of an accident was disqualified from driving at Sligo District Court for two years. Judge Kevin Kilrane said he had no sympathy for the actions of Gregory Lynagh of Culleens, Co Sligo while disqualifying him and he was also fined € 400 for careless driving and failing to stop. “I have very definite views on this type of thing,” the judge added. “This was a nasty scene of not stopping and motoring on leaving the victim high and dry. He’s a danger on the road and has to be put off it.” The court heard the defendant had paid compensation of € 600 to the other driver, David Kilgannon. Garda PJ Loftus of Enniscrone Garda Station said that on October 7th 2015 Mr Kilgannon and his father were travelling back from Sligo at 8.20pm. At Donaghintra, Dromore West, they pulled in to allow another van pass and as it passed them it collided with them. There was damage to the driver’s side. The van continued to drive on and they followed it to a house where the driver alighted, took the keys and went into the house. Gardaí were called and the injured party identified Lynagh as the driver. Several attempts were made to contact him but were unsuccessful. Defending solicitor Ms Laura Spellman said the defendant’s family at the time were going through a tragic bereavement. “I think the incident occurred a short time after this,” she added. The judge said he didn’t take incidents like these lightly and disqualified him for two years.
