Robertson working ‘ night and day’ to plan for 2017

DAVE Robertson says he will be working constantly for the next number of weeks in order to get his squad ready for the 2017 season/

With the bulk of this year’s squad already committed for next season, Robertson says he will be working hard even when the season ends in order to get things ready for next year.

Speaking after Friday night’s defeat to Derry City, Robertson said his players won’t be getting much of a break during the off- season.

“We’re working constantly, we’ll be working over the weekend. We’ll be working next week when the season ends. We’ll continue to work,” he said.

“To be a professional in this game you cannot leave any stone unturned, you cannot rest on your laurels. You have to go out and make things happen. That’s what I’ll be doing and that’s what the players will be doing. They’ll have a ten day break at the end of the season and then they will start their individual programmes to make sure that when they come back they will be in tip top competition,” he added.

Rovers face strugglers Wexford Youths at home on Friday night in the final game of the season.

It remains to be seen whether or not Ciaran Nugent, who has been excellent in recent weeks, will remain on for next year but Robertson appears to be keen to keep him among his ranks.

“I’m hopeful we keep Ciaran. He’s proven his worth to the team and he’s been able to step up and do that. But what we’ve always had is a competitive environment and that’s professional football. Throughout pre- season ( 2017) both of them will get the opportunity to prove themselves,” Robertson said about the American following Friday night’s defeat.
