CARBURY FC move within a point of the league leaders in The Great Southern Hotel Sligo Super League after a hard- fought win away to Strand Celtic.
This was an eagerly awaited clash and the large crowd were not disappointed with a cracker of a game. Strand Celtic were without their leading scorer Gareth Kelly but still put in a sterling performance keeping a clean sheet for the first 45 minutes.
Carbury took the lead on 60 minutes with Keith Carty finishing off a set piece past Graham Lee in the Strand goals and ten minutes from time another set piece saw John Gaffney wrap up the points for Carbury.
Strand, despite losing this one, will have gained a lot of confidence and will on current form take some silverware this season.
Carbury however look the real deal yet their biggest test to date will come next Sunday when they host the league leaders Ballisodare United who just might be the team to take the first point from this Carbury machine.
Calry Bohs are getting back on track with a powerful display away to Ballymote Celtic at Brother Walfrid Park. Matthew Drew scored twice for Ballymote Celtic but Calry Bohs with a goal from current international Conor Griffin, Patrick Heraughty Mark Hynes and Kevin Coen took all three points for a jubilant Calry Bohs who take on the League Champions Boyle Celtic Sunday next in Celtic Park and on this form Bohs will give a good account of themselves.
Yeats United recorded an impressive 3- 1 victory over Glenview Stars on Friday night at the Ray Mac Sharry Complex.

Manor Rangers hit Aughanagh Celtic for six without reply at the Bee Park Manorhamilton, Seamus Ryder the man of the match with a four haul plus a goal each from Niall Walsh and Alan Hickey moving Manor into the seventh on the leader board and next Sunday they face a big challenge away to fourth place St John’s FC this could well finish all square.
The Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League is on fire at the moment with the three top clubs putting in some amazing performances.
Biggest clash of the day was at Mullaghmore where league leaders Cliffoney Celtic welcomed high flying MCR to the bowl.
The visitors were first out of the blocks with a Ciaran Harvey special and Fatih Hamiani put MCR two ahead in a blistering opening period.
Cliffoney pulled a goal back before half time with a fine strike from Oran Gallagher.
The second half was nip and tuck and it was Kevin Gavigan who stepped up to score the vital equaliser that keeps the North Sligo Kingpins in poll position.
Cliffoney are away to Real Tubber next weekend and should continue their winning ways but the clash of the round has to be MCR at home in Sean Fallon Park to Ballygawley Celtic not a game for the faint of heart and one that will go all the way to the wire.
Second placed Ballygawley Celtic had their shooting boots on at home to the Young Guns of Dromore Villa who got hit for six without reply.
Joe Kilcullen scored twice with a goal each from Niall Mullen, James Mackay, Ross Mc Loughlin and Colm Mc Tiernan rounding of the day in a winning mood for Ballygawley Celtic.
Coolaney United won at home by the odd goal in three against visitors Arrow Harps.
Paul Finnerty and Ciaran Mc Murray the hit men for Coolaney with leading scorer Daniel Willis pouncing for Harps.
Coolaney can continue their momentum away to Gurteen Celtic next weekend but Arrow Harps will have to be at their best if they are to take anything from their encounter at home in Riverstown to Carrick Town.
Benbulben FC with a goal each from Nigel Gallagher, Anthony Moylette and Niall Feeney took all three points in this close encounter with a vastly improving Gurteen Celtic who score with strikes from Ion Lavric and Ross O Dowd.
Chaffpool United welcome Benbulben FC next weekend in what will be an interesting clash and could well end in a draw while Gurteen as previously stated welcome Coolaney United.
